About Deb

I am an Empath and Highly Sensitive/Perceptive Person, which means that I feel and process things deeply and strongly relate to other’s experiences. I am proud of these gifts that help me move through the world in a unique way.

I am also a gardener, botanist, and ecologist, and my connection to nature has helped me immensely throughout my life. My family and I live on a vegetable farm with 55 acres of woods and cliffs in the Driftless area of southwestern Wisconsin. We are very grateful to live in this beautiful place.

I am fortunate to have had a wide variety of experiences in my life. I surveyed for plants and animals in North Dakota, West Virginia, Florida, Arkansas, California, New Mexico, and Utah. I worked on a military base in Texas. I waitressed in Georgia and volunteered on farms in Alaska. I taught botany and ethnobotany classes and conducted farming research in Colorado. Finally, I made my way back to my home state of Wisconsin to live out my long-time dream of having my own farm.

Although I had a lot of fun adventures, I also struggled with anxiety and depression for much of my adult life. I was a “self-help junkie”, always trying to find ways to help myself. Thankfully, the somatic healing techniques I learned have helped me heal from the wounds and old beliefs that caused me to spiral downwards. Being able to really make significant and lasting changes for the first time in my life is what has inspired me to share these techniques with others.

I am still refining my new way of being, but I now trust myself in a way I never have before. I know that my Body is the best friend that I didn’t realize I had. I am able to take up my full space and feel calm in my Body, even when others are upset, and I can make healthy boundaries that protect me while not shutting off connection. I now know what to DO when triggered and have reduced my reactivity from hours or even days to moments. Life is becoming more effortless, and I am truly present with myself and others more often.

Training and Education

  • Certified Coach Subtle Body Method (TM), with the Body Wisdom Academy

  • Biology of Trauma (TM) Professional Training Program, with Dr. Aimie Apigian (in progress)

  • Undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology and Master's degree in Botany

  • School of Hard Knocks, Several Honorary Degrees: My life experiences, and especially mistakes, have taught me the most. I've had a lot of practice calming my nervous system and navigating both big "T" and small "t" traumas in my life and have found what works best for me is healing through somatic techniques.

  • I also am continually learning about our nervous system, trauma healing methods, attachment styles, and everything and anything regarding what makes us tick. I love learning about why we do and feel what we do!

"After my sessions with Deb, I know now that there is strength and power in feeling everything I need to feel, and no one can take that away from me."
